New Orleans’ selection of public golf courses is not as dazzling as its gastronomic treats, but it does include all four of the tracks that have hosted the city’s PGA Tour stop. So, get out your woods and irons and visit the public golf courses for an exhilarating day in the great outdoors!  Whether you’re coming to New Orleans for a work conference and have a day off, or you’re visiting for a guys or girls weekend, or you are fortunate to live here in NOLA, you might not think of New Orleans as a great golf destination, but think again!  From the beauty of our Live Oaks, the majestic views of the Mississippi, to club houses inspired by beautiful plantation architecture, if you can tolerate our heat and humidity our golf courses have a lot to offer.

The Joseph M. Bartholomew Municipal Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72-course, owned and operated by the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways, the renovated course includes a double ended driving range, putting green and a fully stocked pro-shop.

The tradition of golf at City Park dates back to 1902. Today’s 18-hole course offers a convenient and affordable round of golf that is challenging yet fun round for all levels of golfers. City Park’s new Practice Center offers a full-service driving range with 74 range stalls and 2 grass hitting areas.

Legendary architect Pete Dye designed the golf course and it is home to the state’s only PGA TOUR event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. This championship golf course has five sets of tees on each hole ensure a rewarding round of golf for every player – no matter his or her handicap. If you are in the New Orleans area, you can’t pass up this round of Louisiana golf as you are just a short drive from the “Big Easy” in Avondale.

Maybe it’s because I’m older now and I appreciate courses that are a little easier to get around. There are lots of bunkers, but many of them aren’t difficult. And the fairways are pretty generous.
