Donut Day in NOLA 2015

New Orleans Celebrates Donut DayDonuts, Donuts Donuts!  Sure we like our beignets here in New Orleans, but National Doughnut Day comes only once a year and there’s more than a few places in the Greater NOLA area celebrating.  The day is not one of those made up holidays either.  The Salvation Army started it as a way to thank those “Donut Lassies” who volunteered to serve these sweet treats to the soldiers of World World I.  There’s plenty of great New Orleans bakeries & coffee shops to choose from that are finding fun ways to celebrate and some establishments are even using the day to help a cause.

Donuts for a Cause:

Bakers Dozen doughnut shop in Jefferson allowed Connor Wilken, 7, is a little boy with big challenges, the chance to design his own donut. One of Connor’s ears didn’t form completely, leaving him with hearing difficulties. As part of National Doughnut Day on Friday, 100%  of the proceeds from his doughnut will benefit his upcoming surgery in November.

Donughts For a Year + Help the Salvation Army:

While you can’t run out and eat this Doughnut Day promotion, you can help a great cause and enter to win some sweet treats. Entenmann’s fans have the chance to win free doughnuts for a year, as well as additional prizes through the sweepstakes link on the Entenmann’s Facebook page. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 3, 2015. Winners will be randomly selected from all submissions.   Entenmann’s is also donating $1 to the Salvation Army for every for every consumer (fan or not) that enters the Facebook “National Donut Day Free Donuts for a Year” Sweepstakes, up to $30,000.

There’s quite a few places around NOLA and the surrounding parishes that are giving out donuts or donut holes with the purchase of something else like a drink or a dozen donuts.  Check out these promotions:

    Nationally the chain is giving out a donut of your choice with the purchase of a drink.  In New Orleans Dunkin Donuts locations include:

  • District Donuts Sliders Brew

    This hidden New Orleans gem just made the #2 slot for top donut shops in the US on Foursquare.  They will  be attaching blank cards to a batch of their treats and encouraging customers to give some sugar to a loved one or stranger.

  • Terrytown Café & Donuts

    The winner of NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune 2015 doughnut contest is giving out free glazed holes to anyone that buys a dozen doughnuts on Friday.

Free, Free Free – Donuts!

If you lacking the change to pick up a donut, then wonder over to some of these New Orleans businesses and pick up your free donut or donut hole.  Most of these establishments are limiting the promotion to be one per customer or until they run out.
